OPay Shifts Focus Beyond Payments at BusinessDay Fintech Summit 2026

OPay, one of Nigeria’s leading fintech companies, took a prominent role as headline sponsor at the inaugural BusinessDay Fintech Summit 2026, held on April 22 at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos. The event, themed “The Next Financial Frontier: Intelligence, Infrastructure & Inclusion in Africa’s Digital Money Economy,” convened top stakeholders across the financial services ecosystem to explore the future of fintech in Africa.

Delivering the keynote address, OPay’s Chief Operating and Technology Officer, Dotun Daniel Adekunle, urged industry players to rethink their priorities, noting that the era of focusing solely on payments is over. His presentation, titled “Payments are solved. The next frontier is different,” challenged fintech firms to embrace innovation that drives meaningful, long-term impact for users.

Adekunle explained that while access to payment services has significantly improved across the continent, the next phase of growth lies in building intelligent financial systems powered by data and robust infrastructure. He emphasized a shift from transaction-driven models to solutions that enhance financial well-being, empower users, and create sustainable value.

“Payments are no longer the problem we need to solve,” he said. “The real opportunity lies in developing intelligent systems that understand users, guide better financial decisions, and improve overall outcomes.”

Further reinforcing OPay’s commitment to innovation, the company’s Head of IT Business Support and Operations, Ibukun Humphrey Oluwagbenga, joined a panel discussion on “Intelligent Finance: How AI, Data and Automation are rewriting Financial Services.” He highlighted how OPay is leveraging advanced technologies to strengthen fraud prevention, improve service delivery, and offer more personalized financial solutions to individuals and businesses.

OPay’s strong presence at the summit underscores its dedication to advancing financial inclusion and building resilient digital infrastructure across Africa. By focusing on intelligence, infrastructure, and inclusion, the company continues to position itself at the forefront of the continent’s evolving digital economy.
