MTN Foundation Graduates 4,702 Teachers, Deepens Push for Digital Learning

LAGOS — MTN Foundation is set to graduate 4,702 school teachers on September 10, 2026, under the latest phase of the MTN and Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL) Teachers’ Fellowship Programme.

The graduation ceremony, scheduled to hold at the MTN Rooftop, Ikoyi, Lagos, marks the completion of a 16-week capacity-building programme aimed at equipping educators with digital skills, innovative teaching techniques and modern classroom competencies.

The latest graduation represents another milestone in the MTN Foundation Teachers’ Fellowship Programme, which was launched two years ago in partnership with SAIL Innovation Hub and Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB).

Since its inception, the initiative has trained a total of 8,702 public school teachers across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with a focus on strengthening the capacity of educators to deliver quality learning in an increasingly technology-driven environment.

Under the latest phase, the 4,702 participating teachers underwent intensive training, mentorship and practical learning sessions designed to enhance their effectiveness in the classroom.

The programme exposed participants to digital literacy, inquiry-based learning, innovative pedagogy and technology-enabled teaching approaches, enabling them to incorporate new tools and methods into their everyday classroom activities.

The initiative comes at a time when technology, particularly artificial intelligence, is rapidly transforming the education sector globally.

As new technologies continue to influence how information is accessed, lessons are delivered and students interact with learning materials, the fellowship seeks to ensure that Nigerian teachers are adequately prepared to respond to these changes.

Beyond acquiring technical skills, the programme places emphasis on helping teachers become more innovative and adaptable educators capable of creating engaging learning experiences for their students.

With the completion of the latest cohort, the 4,702 graduates are expected to take the knowledge and skills acquired during the fellowship back to their respective schools, where they can apply them to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

The graduation therefore serves not only as a celebration of the participants’ achievement but also as a reaffirmation of the importance of continuous professional development for teachers and the role of educators in shaping Nigeria’s future workforce.

Through the fellowship, MTN Foundation and its partners are strengthening the capacity of teachers to serve as catalysts for improved learning outcomes while supporting the development of a more digitally prepared education system.
