FG, VIYA Health Partner Incepta on Family Planning Access
Abuja, Nigeria — Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to quality family planning services through a strategic partnership involving VIYA Health and Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
The partnership was strengthened during a high-level engagement held on April 16, 2026, at the office of the Director of Family Health in Abuja, where stakeholders discussed strategies to improve access to affordable and innovative contraceptive solutions across Nigeria.
The meeting followed the World Health Organization’s prequalification of Incepta’s generic subcutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC), branded as Medogen SubQ, in October 2025. The WHO approval marked the first-ever prequalification of a generic self-inject DMPA-SC product, confirming its safety, quality, and effectiveness.
As Incepta’s exclusive representative for DMPA-SC in Nigeria, Ghana, and other African markets, VIYA Health said the development would help eliminate supply limitations, improve affordability, and expand access to self-inject contraceptive options for women.
Representing the Director of Family Health, Dr. Oyeniyi said Nigeria aims to achieve a 27 percent Modern Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (mCPR) by 2030, noting that the growing adoption of DMPA-SC is expected to contribute significantly toward that target.
Speaking during the engagement, Pharm. Billy Shoaga, Business Lead at VIYA Health, described the collaboration with Incepta as a major step toward empowering women with convenient and discreet reproductive healthcare options.
According to him, VIYA Health’s role goes beyond product distribution, as the organisation is also working with federal and state health authorities, healthcare providers, and implementing partners to strengthen awareness, training, and integration of DMPA-SC into existing family planning programmes.
He explained that Medogen SubQ would be deployed in the public sector, while Meuri-SubQ, VIYA Health’s private-sector brand, would serve private healthcare channels. Both products are based on the same WHO-prequalified DMPA-SC formulation.
Shoaga reaffirmed VIYA Health’s commitment to collaborating with government agencies, donors, healthcare providers, and channel partners to ensure wider availability of the products across Nigeria, while supporting improved maternal and reproductive health outcomes.
