Court Approves ₦200m Bail for Nasir El-Rufai, Imposes Gag Order
A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has granted bail to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in his ongoing corruption trial.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Rilwan Aikawa, followed previous adjournments that allowed both the prosecution and defence to present their arguments before the court.
In granting bail, the judge fixed the sum at ₦200 million, with two sureties required to provide the same amount. The court stipulated that one surety must be a senior civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the other must be a recognised traditional ruler.
Justice Aikawa further ordered that both sureties must deposit their international passports with the court. Additionally, El-Rufai was mandated to appear at all scheduled court proceedings and was expressly barred from making public comments regarding the case.
Despite the approval of bail, El-Rufai will remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission until all bail conditions are fully met.
The former governor is facing multiple charges, including allegations of financial misconduct, abuse of office, and mismanagement of public funds during his time in office.
