Soludo Begins Second Term as Anambra Governor Amid High-Profile Attendance
Awka, Anambra State — Governor Charles Soludo has been sworn in for a second term as governor of Anambra State, following a ceremony attended by prominent political figures from across Nigeria.
The inauguration, held on Tuesday at Alex Ekwueme Square, marked the official commencement of Soludo’s new tenure. He took the oath of office alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim.
Among dignitaries present were Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as elder statesman Emeka Anyaoku. Several governors, including Siminalayi Fubara, were also in attendance, alongside political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and party supporters.
Soludo’s return to office follows his victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The governor polled 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 99,445 votes. Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party came third with 37,753 votes.
Data released by the electoral body showed that 16 candidates contested the election. Out of 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited, with 595,298 valid votes cast and 11,244 rejected ballots recorded across the state’s 21 local government areas.
In a decisive outcome, Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, secured victory in all 21 local government areas, underscoring a sweeping mandate from the electorate.
In his inaugural address, the governor is expected to outline his administration’s priorities for the new term, with focus on economic transformation, infrastructure development, security, and governance reforms in the state.
