Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Makes History as Nigerian Bar Association’s 33rd President

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Elected 33rd President of Nigerian Bar Association

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), following the conclusion of the association’s national elections.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), Chief Aham Ejelam (SAN), officially announced the outcome after the final results were confirmed on the committee’s live election results portal.

Badejo-Okusanya emerged victorious with 12,317 votes, accounting for 47.18 per cent of the total ballots cast. She defeated fellow Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Lateef Akangbe, who received 7,934 votes, and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, who polled 5,855 votes.

Her election marks a significant milestone in the leadership of the NBA as she prepares to assume office in August 2026, succeeding the incumbent President, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN).

Other officials elected into the NBA National Executive Committee include Oghenero Okoro as First Vice President with 11,024 votes, Afam Okeke as General Secretary with 8,478 votes, Aghogho Gladys as Assistant General Secretary with 14,312 votes, and Chinelo Audrey Ofoegbunam as Welfare Secretary after polling 14,911 votes, alongside other successful candidates.

The newly elected executives are expected to steer the affairs of the association over the next administration, with Badejo-Okusanya set to lead the NBA at a critical period for Nigeria’s legal profession.
