INEC Declares Adeleke Winner of Osun Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent Governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 2026 governorship election held across the state on Saturday.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes
The victory gives Adeleke a winning margin of **66,252 votes** and secures him a second term as governor of the state.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, announced Adeleke as the winner at the INEC State Collation Centre in Osogbo early Sunday.
The declaration followed the completion of the collation of results from the state’s **30 local government areas**. The exercise reportedly began at about 2am and was concluded around 8am.
According to the results announced by INEC, Adeleke won in **19 local government areas**, while Oyebamiji carried 11 local government areas.
The Accord candidate recorded victories in areas including Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo.
Oyebamiji, on the other hand, won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun local government areas.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salaam, finished third with **17,180 votes**.
INEC recorded a total of **1,005,800 votes cast**, comprising 985,079 valid votes and 20,721 rejected ballots. The election attracted 15 candidates, according to the results announced by the electoral commission.
The election was closely watched because of the political significance of Osun State and the contest between the incumbent governor and the APC challenger.
Adeleke’s victory marks the continuation of his administration for another four years after he first won the Osun governorship election in 2022.
Declaring the result, Ogunwole said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore returned elected as governor of Osun State.
The declaration brings to an end months of political campaigns and intense competition among the participating parties, while attention will now shift to the transition process and the governor’s second-term agenda.
The result also means that the Accord Party retains control of the Osun State Government following the incumbent’s successful re-election bid.
Adeleke’s 66,252-vote margin over Oyebamiji represents a decisive victory in the keenly contested poll, with the governor emerging ahead of the APC candidate both in total votes and in the number of local government areas won.
