2027: Coalition seeks extradition of public holders with cases of impunity

AHEAD of the 2027 general elections, the United Actions For Democracy (UAD), and the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations have made an appeal to Attorney General and the National Security Adviser to facilitate the extraditions of public holders with cases of impunity back to the countries where they were once convicted.
While making the appeal on Tuesday, during a press conference held in Lagos, the Convener, Comrade Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, lamented that Nigeria cannot continue to be governed by fake elements who brandish fake governance, thereby destroying the livelihoods of citizens and turning Nigeria into a “disgraced country” of “particular concerns”.
He said: “In addendums to our press briefing where we called on the rejection of Governor Dapo Abiodun and such other fraudulent Nigerian rulers from the next elections, as much as the call for his extradition back to the United States, where he has been convicted for a case of corruption, we have been availed of CTC documents of the judgment on the United States trial of the Ogun State Governor of impunity!

“It is sad that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and others looked the other way when media platforms like Sahara Reporters published these documents on the governor’s convictions on March 25, 2025 for Credit cards fraud in Florida, Miami! We are vowing never to allow such roguery to have its place anymore in our democracy.”

While noting that the groups have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on the issue, Ajayi said they are requesting the National Central Bureau (NCB) – INTERPOL Nigeria to liaise with relevant law enforcement authorities in the United States to verify the authenticity of the referenced court records.

“Ascertain the legal status of the alleged convictions, including whether any outstanding warrants, pending sentences, or enforceable judicial orders exist. Where legally justified, activate appropriate INTERPOL channels, including the consideration of relevant notices, in accordance with international policing protocols.

“Advise the Federal Government of Nigeria on the legal feasibility of any further action, including extradition proceedings, in line with applicable treaties and domestic laws, and ensure strict adherence to due process, professionalism, and neutrality in handling this matter, given its sensitive national and international implications.”

He noted that the appeal was made in the public interest to uphold the rule of law, strengthen accountability in governance, and preserve the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
