WASSA 2026 to Spotlight Africa’s Green Transition, Climate Finance, Inclusive Growth

The Sustainable Report Africa Media Limited is set to convene key stakeholders across the public and private sectors at the 2026 West Africa Sustainability Summit and Awards (WASSA), with focus on accelerating Africa’s transition to a greener and more inclusive economy.

The summit, themed **“Accelerating Africa’s Green Transition: People, Planet & Prosperity,”** is scheduled to take place on October 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Ballroom of Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The annual event is expected to bring together policymakers, business leaders, sustainability experts, investors, development practitioners, civil society organisations, academics and other stakeholders to examine emerging environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges and opportunities across West Africa and the wider African continent.

According to the organisers, WASSA 2026 is designed to move conversations around sustainability beyond advocacy towards practical action, while recognising the need to balance environmental protection with social inclusion and economic development.

Discussions at the summit will centre on six thematic areas, including **ESG Integration and Corporate Accountability; Climate Finance and Green Investment; Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security; Youth, Gender and Inclusive Sustainability; Policy, Regulation and the Green Economy; and Technology, Innovation and the Digital Green Transition.**

Participants are expected to examine issues including sustainable business practices, renewable energy, climate financing, green investments, sustainable agriculture, carbon markets, biodiversity conservation, digital technologies and inclusive economic development.

The summit will also highlight the role of young people and women in driving Africa’s green transition, particularly through entrepreneurship, innovation and the creation of sustainable employment opportunities.

The organisers said Africa’s youthful population presents a significant opportunity to build a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators capable of developing solutions to environmental and socio-economic challenges.

A major highlight of the event will be the **West African Sustainability Awards (WASSA Awards) 2026**, which will recognise individuals and organisations that have made measurable contributions to environmental sustainability, social development and responsible governance across West Africa and the wider continent.

The awards will cover categories including **Corporate Excellence, Leadership & Impact, and Innovation & Sector Awards**, with recognition extending across different sectors and areas of sustainability.

The organisers said the awards process would prioritise credibility and transparency, with nominations to be assessed by an independent panel comprising representatives from academia, civil society, the private sector and international development organisations.

WASSA 2026 is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, showcase sustainability solutions, strengthen partnerships and explore practical pathways for advancing Africa’s green transition while promoting prosperity and improved livelihoods.
